Nearly everyone could do with becoming a little more fit.  And there are a variety of gyms to choose from.  So how do you make your family fitness center stand out and gather in the flabby and fearful to develop a lifelong commitment to fitness and health?

Evangelism

Staying fit has to become a way of life.  Your members have to feel committed to the benefits of fitting in to clothes, having lots of energy and being a lot more robust during flu season and other less obvious health-related benefits.

As the Gym owner, therefore,  you must think like a guru, without obnoxiously becoming one, and provide encouragement, tools and inspiration at every turn.  Consider the following –

  1. Social Media accounts
  2. Email Marketing
  3. Open Houses & EVERY Hallmark Holiday, especially the goofy ones, so that the fun never stops! Why not a single working mother’s day celebration?  How do those folks meet each other for support if not through the gym?
  4. Gather success stories, and celebrate each person who loses, say 30 lbs, by giving them a makeover and photo session in the fitness center, so that everyone can see the hoopla!  Nothing like the accountability of being photographed and feted in front of the entire membership to make someone stay on task and maintain their success.
  5. Consistently remind people of the benefits they can reap when they are fit – the activities they can do, the vacations they can take in normally inaccessible places, the lives they an lead.  It may feel like smoke and mirrors to an ordinary person but to fitness enthusiasts, it is their delightful reality.

Convenience

  1. The app for booking, instant check ins, paying for individual classes or monthly memberships, etc.,
  2. Workout clothes for people who forgot things like socks, or a headband, or other small items that don’t cost you much but had to the overall feeling of abundance and positivity.
  3. Set up a fun, well-lit spot in a few of the prettier areas of the gym so that people can take selfies of themselves there.  Encourage folks to add to their stories.

 

Equipment & Custom Classes

More than state of the art equipment, keep up to date on the latest classes.  And consider offering custom classes.  Run the numbers.  If it takes 5 students to be in profit on a class, empower someone to get a group of friends together to do one particular concentration..

REVIEWS

  1. Have you claimed your Google My Business listing?  Have you filled it out completely and loaded a few photos and videos.  Especially of the parking lot so that visitors will recognize the place from the Google Maps Listing (which are connected.)
  2. Yelp – have you got your family fitness center listed on Yelp so that people can quickly click like, and add in their own photos, etc.
  3. Also, encourage live streaming and photos from somewhere convenient within the gym.

Creatively expanding your reach —>   the podcast, the affirmation tracks, the 3 p.m. auto text that reminds everyone to boost their energy sag with something other than a candy bar!
